Going into the Tokyo Olympics — with the expectation that this is likely to be her final Olympics — Simone Biles appeared on the cover of the July 15 edition of Sports Illustrated, joining the magazine to talk about her career and her future.

With 30 medals between the Olympics and World Championships, Biles is one of the most decorated gymnasts ever and by far so among her American peers. In the cover story, she described her reaction to the postponement of the Olympics last year and the uncertainty that she would be able to participate again, as a now 24-year-old in gymnastics.

Biles has also embraced movements outside of sports, such as Black Lives Matter as well as speaking up about the abuse that she and many other USA gymnasts experienced from former team doctor Larry Nassar.

“I feel like I found my voice a little bit more,” Biles told Sports Illustrated. “That’s also scary because people expect you to speak out, and sometimes it can be triggering, it can be hard, but I also know I’m helping other people out there, and that’s why I do it.”

As her career builds towards its end, Biles also discussed her plans after retirement from gymnastics with her interests ranging from hosting her own television show as well as working with foster kids.
