TELFAR sponsors Liberian National Team for Tokyo Olympics
Telfar is entering the sportswear space with a bang. On June 21, the brand announced that it will be the official sponsor of the Liberian National team for the Tokyo Olympics.
Known for their quick-selling shopping bags, Telfar is entering the sportswear space with a bang. On June 21, the brand announced that it will be the official sponsor of the Liberian National team for the Tokyo Olympics.
“They said, ‘Go crazy.’ So I did,” said Clemens to The New York Times.
Featuring the Liberian flag and Telfar logo, Clemens and his team made about 70 pieces in four months. This included leggings, sweatsuits, duffle bags and even racing spikes.
The uniforms will be worn by all members and staff of the Olympic team to the opening and closing ceremonies, the competition, Olympic Village and merch. The athletes are testing the gear now, and it is being altered for performance specifications.
This sponsorship is not exclusive to uniforms. It also includes travel and food, making it the largest external investment Telfar has ever made.
This will be the first performance gear he has ever designed. Liberian-American designer Telfar Clemens and Babak Radboy, his business partner and artistic director, have been thinking about creating TELFAR athleticwear and were eager to partner with the national team.
A selection of the pieces will be available to the public after the Games and a larger line of athletic gear and clothing will debut in the fall.
