Video game publisher 2K, the creator of the popular NBA 2K series, is refurbishing a basketball court in Toronto’s Lawrence Heights community through its philanthropic arm, 2K Foundations, which focuses on giving back to underserved communities.

The company is partnering with Toronto-based non-profit HXOUSE as well as the artists The Weeknd and NAV on the project. The refurbished court includes a new scoreboard, backboards, court repairs and new artist designs to the court.

“As a Toronto native, it’s an honor to give back to the city where I grew up playing ball,” said NAV. “Because basketball and hip hop can provide so many opportunities for kids growing up in this community, we designed a court and helped renovate a community center that empowers kids of all backgrounds to explore their interests.”

The refurbished court in Toronto is among multiple other projects that 2K Foundations is taking on in communities around the world, with other similar renovations taking place in the United States as well as the Dominican Republic and the United Kingdom in partnership with athletes such as Candace Parker, Al Horford, Hakeem Olajuwon and more to give back to their local communities.

NBA 2K21 released in September, later becoming the first game in the series on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
