Welcome home, Bo Bichette.

The 21-year-old rookie shortstop doubled in the sixth inning of his home debut to give him a modern era MLB record with doubles in nine consecutive games.

Bichette got a high fastball from New York Yankees reliever Chad Green and lined it into the right centre field gap, breaking the record of eight set by Yadier Molina (2016) and Derrek Lee (2007). The double also gave him his 13th extra-base hit through his first 11 games.

But it may not have been his loudest hit of the night.

An inning earlier in the fifth, Bichette took a meaty offering from Yankees starter Domingo German and laced it off the facing above the second deck in left field for his fourth homer of the season. The blast was measured at 441 feet.

He is now just two games back of Rocco Baldelli (13 in 2003) and Dale Alexander (13 in 1929) for the longest hit streak ever to begin a career.

His 11-game hitting streak is also the longest in Blue Jays history to start a career.

Despite Bichette's evening to remember, the Blue Jays fell 12-6 after starter Thomas Pannone lasted just 2.1 innings, allowing seven earned runs. Bichette finished the night 2-for-5 with three runs driven in.

Toronto and New York will be back at it Friday evening from the dome.
