Jays' Springer exits early, diagnosed with bruise on hand
An X-ray on the right hand of George Springer came back negative and the 33-year-old Toronto Blue Jays outfielder was diagnosed with a bruise, the team announced on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the right fielder was hit in the right hand by White Sox starter Michael Kopech in the third inning of the team's series-ending matinee with the Chicago White Sox and was pinch hit for by Cavan Biggio in his next at-bat the following inning.
Springer is hitting just .219 this season with three home runs and nine RBIs. He also has an on-base percentage of .279 with four stolen bases.
Springer has dealt with numerous injuries during his time with the Blue Jays, playing in 78 games in 2021 and 133 games last season.
The 10-year MLB veteran is in his third season with the Jays after signing a six-year, $150 million contract ahead of the 2021 season.
Toronto is now 16-9 on the season after completing a three-game sweep of the White Sox with an 8-0 victory.
