Blue Jays trade deadline acquisitions active vs. Twins
The Toronto Blue Jays will get some reinforcements for Thursday night's game against the Minnesota Twins.
Pitchers Zach Pop, Anthony Bass, and utility player Whit Merrifield have reported to the team in Minneapolis and will be active against the Twins.
Pop and Bass were acquired from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for prospect Jordan Groshans, while Merrifield was acquired from the Kansas City Royals prior to Tuesday's trade deadline in exchange for pitcher Max Castillo and prospect Samad Taylor.
Pop, 25, has a 2-0 record with a 3.60 earned-run average in 18 appearances with the Marlins this season.
Bass, 34, has a 2-3 record with a 1.41 earned run average over 44 2/3 innings with the Marlins this season, with 45 strikeouts and 10 walks.
Merrifield, 33, is a two-time all-star and is batting .240 with six home runs and 42 RBIs this season.
To make room on the roster, the Blue Jays have optioned pitchers Matt Gage, Matt Peacock, and catcher Zack Collins to Triple-A Buffalo.
