More Names In The Mix?

Kevin Allen of USA TODAY posted his own list of players who could be on the move by Mar. 2

Names of interest include Arizona Coyotes winger Martin Erat, Devils blueliner Marek Zidlicky and forward Michael Ryder, Sabres defenceman Andrej Meszaros and Flyers defenceman Kimmo Timonen.

How About Chara?

As Jim Matheson wrote in the Edmonton Journal on Tuesday afternoon, Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara has two years left on his contract at a $6.8 million AAV ($5 million in salary next year and $4 million in 2016-17) and is slowing down.

Matheson wonders if it's time for the Bruins to move him and if a team like the Anaheim Ducks could be interested. He adds that GM Bob Murray wouldn't trade young players like Cam Fowler, Hampus Lindholm or Sami Vatanen, but has prospects in Shea Theodore, Emerson Etem and Nick Ritchie along with other young players like Kyle Palmieri, Rickard Rakell, Devante Smith-Pelly, William Karlsson and Jacob Silfverberg.

No Rush In Sunrise

After a 3-2 win over Toronto on Tuesday, the Florida Panthers are just two points back of Boston for the second wild card playoff spot. But as Craig Davis of The South Florida Sun Sentinel writes, GM Dale Tallon isn't committing to an in-season quick fix to accelerate their playoff push.

"The key for us is to stay the course," Tallon told reporters on Tuesday. "We're building something special here and I like the direction we're going.

"I don't foresee us doing anything silly to jeopardize our future. It is going to have to make sense for us short term and long term. We're not going to just band-aid it to see if we can make a run of it."

Tallon didn't specifically address the rumours and speculation surrounding Leafs forward Phil Kessel, but said that the Panthers could an elite scorer and wasn't going to give up his young assets yet to acquire one.

Wait And See

As Jimmy Hascup of USA TODAY Sports wrote on Tuesday afternoon, Tyler Seguin's injury has not changed the Dallas Stars' approach with Mar. 2 on the horizon. "Not right now, no," Statrs GM Jim Nill told Hascup. "We still have a couple weeks to go, and it's going to depend where our team is at."

The Stars' No. 1 centre is out three to six weeks with a knee injury after on a low hit from Florida's Dmitry Kulikov on Friday.

One Or The Other on Broadway

Larry Brooks of the NY Post wrote Tuesday night that while the Rangers need a bottom-six forward and a left-handed blueliner to play with Dan Boyle, they may not have the cap room and assets to acquire both

Sources told Brooks that the Rangers are looking at Hurricanes defenceman Andrej Sekera and the price for his services would be a first-round pick and a prospect. Brooks suggests that the Rangers could offer one of the their second-round picks, a player like John Moore (if the Hurricanes are interested) and a prospect with the exception of Anthony Duclair, Pavel Buchnevich and Brady Skjei.

Brooks added that the Toronto Maple Leafs asked for a second-round pick and a prospect from the Rangers last week for Mike Santorelli.
