With the Rugby World Cup 2015 less than two months away, TSN began gearing up for the tournament in a variety of ways this week.
On Tuesday, the TSN Promotions team traveled to Appleby College in Oakville, Ont. to film on-air promos with eight members of Canada’s men’s rugby team.
Over the course of a long day of filming, TSN captured the Team Canada players both inside the school’s arena and under a rain machine on the outdoor field, demonstrating everything from spirited scrums…
To fearsome green-screen stills.
But it wasn’t all intimidating power poses – at one point, we caught Team Canada wing Taylor Paris posing with a puppy.
TSN’s behind-the-scenes Vines provide a sneak preview of the results of the rugby promo shoot that fans will soon see on air. Here, Team Canada wing D.T.H. van der Merwe does a dramatic flying leap over the goal line.
And here’s fly-half Connor Braid executing a textbook crash tackle into the mud.
On Wednesday evening, a large group of TSN’s Toronto-based staff embraced the rugby spirit when they got a chance to support Team Canada live and in person in a match against Samoa at BMO Field. The match was part of the Pacific Nations Cup, one of Canada’s final tune-ups before the upcoming World Cup. For TSN staff, the match was the first big event for TSN’s new social committee, the TSN Fun Squad, who brought hats, flags, and big cheers to BMO Field’s Section 109.
Though Team Canada took a hard-fought loss on the night, their gutsy performance against the 9th-ranked team in the world showed that Canada’s men’s rugby team is firing on all cylinders heading into the World Cup.
