No trade imminent for Canucks F Suter; Boeser extension very unlikely
Vancouver Canucks forward Pius Suter is expected to be in the lineup Wednesday night against the Anaheim Ducks ahead of Friday's NHL trade deadline. TSN's Farhan Lalji reports that no trade for him is imminent.
The 28-year-old has 16 goals and 28 points in 59 games this season.
Suter is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season after he completes a two-year, $3.2 million deal that carries an AAV of $1.6 million.
The five-year veteran has recorded 73 goals and 71 assists for 144 points in 342 career NHL games with the Canucks, Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks.
The Canucks hold a record of 27-22-11 and sit two points behind the Calgary Flames for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Boeser appears set to stay, play on expiring deal
In another update from Lalji, he reports that Canucks forward Brock Boeser is very unlikely to be extended by the team ahead of Friday’s trade deadline or dealt without a significant return.
According to Lalji’s report, it’s possible the team will continue to attempt to sign him to an extension after the deadline.
Boeser, No. 2 on TSN’s latest Trade Bait board, is in the final season of a three-year, $19.95 million contract that carries a cap hit of $6.65 million.
TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger has also reported that the Canucks made a contract extension offer to Boeser earlier this season, but it's no longer believed to be on the table.
The 28-year-old has appeared in 53 games this season for the Canucks and has 18 goals with 18 assists.
The Burnsville, Minnesota native set a career high with 73 points last season (40 goals, 33 assists).
