Warriors pulling away atop NBA Power Rankings

The Golden State Warriors are in a class of their own when it comes to the NBA Power Rankings, well ahead of the San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Warriors win by an average margin of 15.4 points per game, against other NBA teams. That's insane. Before last season, when the Warriors averaged a 10.1 scoring margin, the last team to even average a margin of better than 10.0 per game was the 2007-2008 Boston Celtics (10.2), and the Warriors are more than five points clear of that.

Gaining ground this week, the Miami Heat rise from nine to five, the Chicago Bulls move from 11 to six, the Indiana Pacers go from 18 to nine, and the  Phoenix Suns jump from 20 to 11.

Heading the other way, the Oklahoma City Thunder slide from six to 10 with Kevin Durant injured, the Houston Rockets cost their coach his job and crash from eight to 20, and the Milwaukee Bucks fall from 12 to 21.

The Toronto Raptors are up a couple of spots, from 10 to eight, after going 2-2 in four games last week, though the latest loss was a respectable showing at Golden State, and that's no easy feat.

Certainly, Steph Curry is the difference-maker for the Warriors, because the rest of the lineup has been merely decent-to-good to this point, but C Festus Ezeli has been developing nicely, and is averaging 8.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, with 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 58.3% from the field.

As wonderful as the story of LaMarcus Aldridge's recruitment was, his performance hasn't been very good early, with too many turnovers and poor shooting (career-low 44.3% from the field) leading to his lowest PER (17.3) since his rookie season.

Coming off back-to-back losses at Milwaukee and Detroit, the Cavs clearly need to work out something with PF Kevin Love, who is shooting 40.9% from the field and 32.0% on threes.

The Clippers can't defend anything it seems, but part of that has to be related to early struggles for PG Chris Paul, who has been battling a groin injury, but is having his worst production (shooting 41.9% from the field and 28.0% on threes) in the early going.

The Raptors have lost five of seven, but Tuesday's loss at Golden State was pretty encouraging as losses go, losing by five on the road against the unbeaten Warriors, in a game in which they had a chance to take the lead in the final 20 seconds.
