What we're listening to What we're listening to

As we cross into the deep dregs of the summer season, new music keeps rolling out to listen to during these hot days. On tap this week, we got albums from Kid Cudi and Brent Faiyaz, along with a single from Murda Beatz, and a crazy collab from Fivio Foreign and The Kid Laroi.

As always, you can listen to what our team is listening to at the official THE SHIFT playlist on Spotify. We always got the hits for you to enjoy. Now, on to the new music.

Kid Cudi - The Boy Who Flew To The Moon Vol. 1

Like a wine fine, Kid Cudi’s later career stage sees him blooming into an all-out entertainment mogul. This project – essentially his “greatest hits” album – explores some of the music that helped him evolve into the figure he is today.

Clocking in at approximately an hour and 20 minutes, the 18-track album features some of his biggest hits from his 14-year career in the spotlight, such as “Day ‘N’ Nite,” “Pursuit of Happiness,” and “Mr. Rager,” whilst including the new, previously unreleased cut, “love.” The new track features production from Dot Da Genius and Cudi himself. Fans can also look forward to the official arrival of his breakout mixtape A Kid Named Cudi on streaming services next week.

Brent Faiyaz - WASTELAND

More than two years have passed since Brent Faiyaz’s last album, but he has returned with his latest project, WASTELAND.

The Maryland R&B singer’s sophomore LP is a spacey, smooth and vibe-filled effort. Executive produced by Jonathan “Freeze” Wells, the album features contributions by Alicia Keys, Drake, Tyler, The Creator, The Neptunes, Joony and Tre’ Amani to piece together the image and persona that Faiyaz encapsulates with this project.

Murda Beatz featuring Quavo, J. Balvin, Anitta and Pharrell - “NO MÁS”

As mentioned earlier, we are now in the dog days of summer, and that’s what “NO MÁS” is about, brought by Murda Beatz and his star-studded cast of Quavo, J. Balvin, Anitta and Pharrell on this bass-heavy track. The party is on in Miami in the song’s accompanying music video produced by Fela and directed by Jackson Tisi. It sees the artists riding around in luxury cars and chilling on white sand beaches.

“It’s a record I’m excited about, bringing four different worlds together; America (Quavo), Colombia (Balvin), Brazil (Anitta), and Canada (Murda),” said Murda Beatz in a statement. “And, of course, having the chance to work alongside a legendary producer like Pharrell is incredible. It’s just the perfect record for the summer.”

Fivio Foreign & The Kid Laroi - “Paris to Tokyo”

Upon first glance, it seemed strange to see Brooklyn drill rapper Fivio Foreign linking up with pop star The Kid Laroi, but it turns out to be a terrific collaboration.

Much like the party was on in Miami above, the party is on in London this time. Fivi and Laroi deliver bars to a sample of Far East Movement and Ryan Tedder’s “Rocketeer,” as swerving cars buzz around in an empty lot and partygoers enjoy the club. Laroi first teased the track in May on TikTok, where the hype and anticipation have built steadily since.
