SEATTLE — Canadian teenage star Alphonso Davies was not in the Vancouver Whitecaps' lineup against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday afternoon.

The team said on Twitter prior to the matchup that Davies was sitting out with the "club's permission." He also missed training Friday.

Earlier on Saturday, Kristian Dyer of The Athletic reported the Canadian was close to joining German club, Bayern Munich, via a transfer.

Davies, a midfielder, has three goals and eight assists in 20 games with Vancouver this season. He was named to the MLS all-star team last month.
