The Atlanta Braves are continuing to lock up their young core.

Only weeks after signing outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. to an eight-year, $100 million deal, the team has signed second baseman Ozzie Albies to a seven-year extension worth $35 million.

The deal comes with two option years that could take it through 2027.

Albies, 22, was set to become arbitration eligible in 2021 and a free agent in 2024.

A native of Willemstad, Curacao, Albies is in his third big league season.

An All-Star in 2018, Albies hit .261 with 24 home runs, 74 runs batted in and an OPS of .757 last year.

He's off to a hot start in 2019, batting .364 with a .929 OPS through 11 games.
