TORONTO - Brad Gushue of St. John's, N.L., is the only skip to remain undefeated through the round-robin portion of the Grand Slam of Curling Players' Championship.

Gushue scored a single in the eighth end to edge Saskatoon's Steve Laycock 5-4 and improv to 5-0 after the final round-robin draw on Friday night.

Quarter-finals begin Saturday.

Calgary's Kevin Koe (4-1) suffered his first loss of the tournament in Friday's late draw. He fell 7-1 to Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

Jacobs, Laycock, David Murdoch and Glenn Howard are all at 3-2.

On the women's side, Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg downed Edmonton's Val Sweeting 7-1 in Friday's afternoon draw, while Ottawa's Rachel Homan fell 6-2 to Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni.

That puts Jones, Homan and Tirinzoni in a four-way tie for first place at 4-1 with Scotland's Eve Muirhead.
