The Saskatchewan Rush, which will begin play at the SaskTel Centre this upcoming season, made the announcement at a news conference on Tuesday.
With the Edmonton Oilers preparing to move into a new downtown arena for the 2016-17 season, the Rush were facing the possibility of finding a new home arena beyond this season.
The reigning Champion's Cup winners had no agreement in place with the City of Edmonton to play in the new arena and Rexall Place has an uncertain future once the Oilers leave.
"We agonized over this decision for months," Rush owner Bruce Urban told the Edmonton Journal. "But without the ability to secure a longterm arena option and no contact from the city for any other options, the only choice remaining was to relocate. It was a business decision and one made with the best interest for the future of the franchise. It was tough because we love Edmonton and our fans."
