Former Arizona Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu has signed a contract with the Houston Texans, the team announced.
The contract is for one year and is worth $7 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Mathieu was released by the Cardinals on the first day of free agency, after spending the past five seasons with the club. The 2015 Pro Bowler was reportedly asked to take a pay cut of $5 million less than the $11 million he was due to make in 2018, but chose not to do so and was thus subsequently cut.
The 25-year-old became a starter with the Cardinals virtually since they drafted him in third round of the 2013 draft. He recorded 74 tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in 16 games last season.
