The Toronto Blue Jays are planning to have a dirt infield at the Rogers Centre for the start of the 2016 season, according to John Lott of the National Post.

Blue Jays vice-president of business operations Stephen R Brooks said Saturday night on Twitter that the plan was to start converting the infield to dirt in February.

Currently the Rogers Centre only has dirt around the bases, home plate and the pitching mound. The rest of the infield and outfield is artificial turf.

The University of Guelph is studying whether or not it would ever be feasible to have grass at the Rogers Centre one day as well and are expected to submit a progress report by May.
