Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman said on Twitter that Dr. James Andrews was "stunned" at his continuing recovery from knee surgery.
Stroman said through Twitter: "Quick stop in Pensacola, FL to get cleared by the legend Dr. Andrews. Off the mound mañana back in Dunedin, FL! Dr. Andrews was stunned by the progression of my knee. Shattering time tables. Shout my @DukeU team!
"Hard-work always pays off. Man, I killed myself these past 3 months to be in the position I am today. Two-a-days, six times a week for 3 months straight. Plus school!"
Stroman had the surgery in March and has been hoping, in a best-case scenario, to make a return to the Blue Jays in September. He has been attending classes at Duke University as well.
In other Blue Jays news general manager Alex Anthopoulos said on Monday that he doesn't expect second baseman Devon Travis to be back until September
The team prepared for that fact over the weekend when they acquired infielder Cliff Pennington from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
"He's making progress, but I was hoping maybe next week he'd be ready to go," manager John Gibbons told TSN's Scott MacArthur over the weekend in New York. "I don't think that's going to happen."
Travis, 24, returned to the disabled list on July 29 with a recurrence of the shoulder injury that kept him out of the lineup for 36 games from May 17 to June 25.
Travis remains at the club's complex in Dunedin, Florida, undergoing treatment.
"I was thinking when it first happened he might need a game or two and he'd be ready to go after his 15 days were up, but that's not going to happen," said Gibbons.
