Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos has been declared day-to-day with a lower-body injury after exiting Sunday's loss to the Nashville Predators.

He missed practice on Monday due to the injury, while defenceman Victor Hedman missed the skate for a maintenance day.

Stamkos missed last Monday's game against the Arizona Coyotes with a lower-body ailment but there is no indication if Sunday's injury is related.

In 78 games this season, the 28-year-old has 27 goals and 59 assists for the Lightning, who have slipped to second in the Atlantic Division behind the Boston Bruins.

The Lightning will be back in action Tuesday when they host the Bruins.
